3 Apache Varsity Boys Wrestlers made the second day for the 10th annual Chukchansi Invitational hosted by Madera South High School.
At 132 pound weight class Sanger Wrestler Fernando Gonzales advanced to the quarterfinals today. With a first round bye Gonzales took on Vince Sesante of McNair High School in the round of 32. Fernandez goes on to pin Sesante in the second round. Gonzales advanced to the round of 16 where he took on the #5 seed Christian Diaz of Downey. Gonzales battles a tough match and defeats Diaz by decision 7-4 to advance him to the quarterfinals to take on Wayne Joint of Lemoore High School. Gonzales fell short losing to joint by major decision. Gonzales will take on the winner f Tyson George of Watsonville and Jassur Kadyrov of Dinuba.
Next at 152 pounds, Sanger’s Vincent Stafford took a first round bye to advance him to the round of 32 to take on Madera South’s Joseph Munoz. Stafford would go on to defeat Munoz by Fall in 1:03 during the 1st period. Stafford advances to round of 16 to take on Munoz’s teammate Tayte Grantham. Stafford fell short and lost by decision 10-4. Stafford dropped to the Consolation bracket and would take on Luke Meyers of Watsonville. Stafford squeaked by as he took the victory by decision 6-3. Stafford will take on Jacob Lopez of Clovis North tomorrow morning.
At the 182 pound weight class Sanger Wrestler Holden Puga also took a first round bye advancing him to the round of 32 taking on Abelardo Juarez of Madera. Puga got the fall late in the 3rd period advancing him to round of 16. Puga took on South Bakersfield’s Elijah Buyard and got the pin in the 1st period advancing him to the quarterfinals. Puga took on Kevin Fernandez of El Capitan and came up short losing by pin in the 2nd period. Next Puga will take on the winner between Briauka of LG and Bauscherbe of LRAN.
