Varsity Results:
The Young Apache Varsity Wrestling team falls short to Hoover 45-33.
The Varsity Match started off at the 182 pound weight class. Sanger Junior Holden Puga took on Hoover’s E. Ruiz. Ruiz dominated the match all the way through the 3rd period and eventually pinned Puga putting the patriots up 6-0.
Next at 195 sophomore Eloy Escareno faced Hoover’s H. Blanco and Blanco ended the match early with a 1st period Fall putting the Patriots up 12-0.
At 220 pounds Senior Rene Martinez came out and wrestled a tough match against Hoover’s C. McDermott. Heading in to the second period McDermott is up 5-3 and ends it with a Fall to put the Patriots up 18-0.
Next at HWT Freshman HWT Tomas Takeda’s first Varsity match is against Hoover’s I. Diaz. Takeda battles all the way through the match picking up a last minute takedown to get the victory by decision 5-3, putting the Apaches on the board 18-3.
At 106 pound weight class Sanger Freshman Zack Butts had his first Varsity text taking on Hoover’s Z. Cerda. It was a hard fought battle all the way into the 3rd period until Butts puts Cerda to his back and picks up the fall putting the team score 18-9 Hoover.
Next at 113 pounds Sanger sophomore Christian Gonzales took on A. Cerda. Gonzales took a loss by Fall in the second period putting the Patriots up 24-9.
At 120 pounds senior Samson Mansy took on Hoover’s T. Willaghby. It was a scramble back and fourth until Mansy was caught on his back to give Willaghby the Fall putting Hoover up 29-9.
Next at 126 pounds Sanger sophomore Gabriel Manzano went back and fourth with Hoover’s A. Rodriguez. Manzano’s Scramble put himself to his back giving Rodriguez the Fall and Hoover a 36-9 lead.
At 132 pounds Freshman Fernando (BooBoo) Gonzales got the Apache momentum going as he took on Hoover’s D. Gonzales. Gonzales dominated the entire match and got the Fall in the second period giving the Apaches 6 points on the board.
Next at 138 pounds Freshman Randeep Sing came into the the match aggressive, pinning J. Cordova I’m the first period giving the Apaches 6 more points to put the score 36-21 Hoover.
At 145 pounds Sanger Junior Steven Jacques received a Forfeit putting the Score 36-27 Hoover.
Next at 152 pounds Sanger Junior Returner Vincent Stafford took on Hoover’s J. Cookson, pinning Cookson early in the first round giving the Apaches another 6 points for a close 36-33 score with Hoover on top.
At 160 pound Sanger Junior Isaac Tellez wrestled Hoover’s J. Vang. It was a close match until the 3rd period as Vang pulled away and got the victory by decision 10-3 giving Hoover the lead 39-33.
Last at the 170 pound weight class Junior Nick Morales took on Hoover’s A. Molina. Molina came out strong and got the pin leaving the Final Score Hoover 44 Sanger 33.
All 4 Freshman on Sanger’s Varsity lineup pulled out Victories in their first varsity dual meet as Apache wrestlers.
Junior Varsity Results:
The Apache wrestling team’s future looks bright as the Junior Varsity Wrestling team was victorious 48-30 against Hoover.
At 182 Pounds Sanger sophomore David Wright wrestled Hoover’s N. Rhodes. Rhodes took the Fall putting Hoover up 6-0.
Next at 195 pounds Freshman Ajveer Baines took on D. Hernandez of Hoover Battling out until the 3rd period as Hernandez gets the Fall putting Hoover up 12-0.
At 220 pounds Junior Thomas Strambi loses a tough one in the second period, getting pinned by Hoover’s A. Vargas putting another 6 on the board for Hoover.
Sanger Sophomore HWT Ray Cabrera Cane our aggressive against Hoover’s F. Reyna getting a victory by Fall in the second period putting the score 18-6 with Hoover on top.
At 106 pounds Sanger Freshman Jorge Ortiz fought hard against Hoover’s T. Baria fighting till the last second getting a 8-7 Victory over Baria giving the Apaches 3 team points.
At 113 pounds Freshman Harley Aguirre took a loss by Fall to Hoover’s K. Mclynns Giving Hoover another 6 team points.
Sanger sophomore Erik Guerrero at 120 pounds and Junior Emanuael Salazar at 126 pounds both had Forfeits giving the Apaches 12 team points.
Next at 132 pounds Sanger Freshman Alan Pelayo came out tough getting the Apaches 6 points with a pin against Hoover’s A. Perez putting the score 26-24 with the Apaches on top.
At 138 pounds Freshman Ethan Denton and 145 pounds Sophomore Moises Navarro both received forfeits giving the Apaches another 12 points putting Sanger on top 36-24.
Sophomore 152 pounder Michael Allen battled it out back and fourth with Hoover’s A. Pimental. Allen came out on top getting the win by decision 13-10 giving Sanger 3 team points.
At 160 pounds Sanger sophomore Cameron Diaz received a forfeit giving Sanger the lead 45-24.
As for the Final match at Junior Varsity Hoover’s I. Camacho received a forfeit putting the Final Score Sanger 45 Hoover 30.
