Sanger’s Merijah and Mia Morales traveled to Napa, Ca to compete in Vintage High school’s Napa Valley Classic which is one of the toughest Girls Tournaments in the State of California.
Senior 106 pounder Merijah Morales took on Oakland Tech’s Valeria Ahumafa first match of the tournament. Morales went on to get the pin in 1:35 in the first period advancing her to the second round of championship to take on Carmen Perez of Windsor. Morales pins Perez in :34 seconds in the first period. Morales would advance to the quarterfinals to take on Greta Gustafson of Santa Cruz. Morales goes on the get the pin late in the second period to advance her to the semifinals and a guaranteed top 6 finish. Morales would face Genesis Quirate of Ridgeview in the semifinals. Morales would get the major decision defeating Quirate 20-8 advancing morales to the Finals to take on Artemisia Matera of Albany. Morales pins her way to victory in 2:25 in the beginning of the second period.
Sophomore 189 pounder Mia Morales took on Amber Guglielmi of Rodriguez High School first round of the tournament. Morales would get the fall in :34 seconds of the first period advancing her to the next round to take on Jasmin Clarke of Kelsey. Morales would come up short dropping her to the Consolation bracket. Next Morales would face Maliyah Castillo of Ridgeview. Castillo Would pin Morales at the beginning of the second period taking her out of the tournament. The sophomore wrestled tough as she ends the tournament with a 1-2 record.
